Evangeline Lilly Biography

In 2000, Evangeline Lilly was "discovered" in the streets of British Columbia by the famous Ford modeling agency, but she decided instead to pursue her dream of working in international relations. Six months later, she took the offer to pay for her college tuition. She then appeared in a few commercials but decided to give up on acting.A few years later, a friend urged her to give it another shot, and Lilly landed a couple of nonspeaking roles in the TV miniseries Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital and the film The Long Weekend. She has also had tiny parts on the TV programs Tru Calling, Dead Like Me, and Smallville, as well as the films White Chicks, The Chronicles of Riddick, Stealing Sinatra, and Freddy vs. Jason.Lilly's breakthrough role was the part of Kate on ABC's supernatural drama Lost. Part of a large ensemble cast, Lilly helped rejuvenate the struggling network with her natural talents and charm. Born in Fort Saskatchewan on Aug. 3, 1979, the actress is fluent in French and enjoys several sports, including ice skating, canoeing, kayaking, snowboarding, and rock climbing.Discovered by a modeling agent in her native Canada, Evangeline Lilly ultimately passed on the catwalk and opted for an acting career. After working briefly as an extra, she was plucked from obscurity and cast as ex-con Kate Austen on ABC's hit island drama Lost. In 2007, she received a Golden Globe nomination for her work on the show. Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide

50 Cent Biography

Interesting Facts About 50 Cent:

  • 50 Cent borrowed his stage moniker from a late Brooklyn druglord named Kelvin Martin.

  • 50 dabbled in boxing in his teenage years

50 Cent's Early Life:

Life hasn't always been smooth-sailing for 50 Cent. He grew up in a poverty-stricken province of South Side Jamaica, Queens in New York. As a teenager, he was was fondly known as Boo-Boo. At age 8, 50 went from not having enough to not having his mom around. His mother was murdered allegedly over a drug-related incident.

50 Cent Learns "How To Rob":

Having ran the streets as a drug kingpin, 50 Cent was eager to find an escape route. Jam Master Jay, one-third of Run-DMC, took 50 under his wings and helped him perfect the art of song-writing. Desperate to get his own shot at success, he later hooked up with production duo, Trackmasters, and released the controversial single, "How To Rob." Using "How To Rob" as a podium, 50 called out every successful artist at the time, citing ways/reasons he could rob them.

I Got Shot 9 Times:

Despite the media frenzy that accompanied "How To Rob," 50's debut album (Power of the Dollar) was never officially released. Things grew worse when 50 was attacked by a gunman outside his grandmother's house on May 24, 2000. He was allegedly struck 9 times. One of the bullets pierced his left cheek, clipped a chunk of gum, and left him with a permanent slur. 50 survived the attack, but his record company, Columbia dropped him afterwards.

Get Rich or Die Tryin':

Fortunately for Curtis, Eminem heard one of his mixtapes and declared him a favorite. A bidding war ensued among the big league labels, but 50 Cent eventually made a move

that would change his life forever--he signed a joint deal with Eminem's Shady Records and Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment, both distributed by Interscope. His major debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin', sold over 800,000 units in its first week. While it featured some potent hits, critics lamented that 50 basked in the shooting incident too much. Get Rich... was later certified diamond for sales exceeding 10 million units.

50 Cent's Numerous Battles:

With success comes great responsibility. Following his sudden rise to fame and insurmountable record sales, 50 soon found himself at odds with other artists, the most prominent being fellow Queens rapper Ja Rule. The story goes that 50 Cent was angered by Ja's failure to acknowledge his presence at a video shoot, prior to 50's major debut. The two have dissed back and forth ever since.

[Chorus]
Shawty you dont have to take your pantys off
Just move 'em to the side
If you wanna ride on the roller coaster
Baby come on and ride
It go up and down and round and round
Stand up or get on the floor
Its on tonight I know what you like
I know just how to break ya off

[Verse 1]
Good evening ladies, I'll tell you from the start
I'm hoping you enjoy my amusement park
Theres lots of activities, fun things to do
And I find my pleasure in pleasing you
Some rides go fast, some rides go slow
If you fear heights when I'm high hell yeah I'll go low
It taste so sweet, that sticky cotton candy
If you get carried away
We'll be starting a family
This is a perfect time for a magic trick
Good humor is no fun without the magic stick
Now watch me as I pull a rabbit out a hat
Then you can use the rabbit all over your cat
Applause now thats the first half of my act
I started out like a pimp
Now I'm more like a mac
I dont need your paper just dont fuck with my stack
Oh its like that
yeah its like that

[Chorus]
Shawty you dont have to take your pantys off
Just move 'em to the side
If you wanna ride on the roller coaster
Baby come on and ride
It go up and down and round and round
Stand up or get on the floor
Its on tonight I know what you like
I know just how to break ya off

[Verse 2]
Now you can ride the horse round the carousel
Expolsion, trojans, all in the hotel
Put me to the test girl, I dont fail
I work it out, without a doubt
Theres plenty water rising sure to get you wet in the pop
Have your lustious seductions considered or not
Throw a hoop around the bottle
I'll be your teddy bear
Whatever color you like, you know I dont care
I really wanna thank you for attending this affair
Now go encourage your friends to come have fun here
I smile when I speak
But I'm being sincere
Your pass is valid all summer my dear
So at your convenience you can always return
There're so many tricks to the trade you should learn
Suck that, lick that, swollow that lolly pop
forget that, grib that, ride it non stop

[Chorus]
Shawty you dont have to take your pantys off
Just move 'em to the side
If you wanna ride on the roller coaster
Baby come on and ride
It go up and down and round and round
Stand up or get on the floor
Its on tonight I know what you like
I know just how to break ya off

Cameron Diaz was sixteen when she got her big break in life. She was at a Hollywood party when she ended up speaking to, and eventually dating, a fashion photographer who landed her a modelling contract with the Elite Modelling Agency within a week of knowing her. She went to Japan with another young model (15) to further her modelling career shortly afterwards. For five years afterwards she travelled from country to country and fashion capital to fashion capital. From Paris to Morocco to Milan and even to Australia and eventually hooked up with boyfriend Carlos De La Torre whom she stayed with for five years in a Hollywood apartment.By the time she landed herself a role in the film The Mask, starring comedian Jim Carrey, she was already an accomplished actress appearing in commercials for Calvin Klein, Levi's, and Coca-Cola as well as being on magazines such as Seventeen and Mademoiselle. She was 21 and had much experience in the modelling world. However, she had begun to feel that there was more in her future than just modelling and she eventually decided to turn from modelling to acting. She initially got a small role in the movie but got bored “practising with the choreographer so that he knows the steps he gonna teach the real girl who gets the job? The director, Charles Russell, who realised what she felt, managed to convince the producers at New Line Cinema to give her the female lead role and so she launched her acting career.A month into the production of the movie she discovered the scale of the movie and got an ulcer realising the pressure set upon her according to the success of the motion picture. After this experience, and a case where she injured herself in training for the film Mortal Kombat, studios became wary of taking her on and so fate would have it that she returned to the world of big time modelling and independent films. She gained a role in the movie the Last Supper?in 1995 saying she decided to do so to gain experience working with other actors seeing as how she had little experience. In 1996 she earned roles in Feeling Minnesota and She The One along side big stars Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Aniston and in the film lead Above Water? She doesn fail to show off her model figure in most of these films and they are all worth a view. She was named N.A.T.O. female star of tomorrow in that year and now with experience in several films she has a growing following of fans.Since then she has starred in My Best Friend Wedding along side Julia Roberts, A Live Less Ordinary with Trainspotting star Ewan McGregor, and most recently There Something About Mary along side long time boyfriend, Matt Dillon. Rumour would have it the two have now broken up but reports are vague.Soon she will appear again on the big screen in the films hear And Loathing In Las Vegas?and an Any Given Sunday? Her latest film, Very Bad things, is out in the States at the moment and will be coming out soon across Europe.

Halle Berry biography

Born August 14 1966, in Cleveland, Ohio, Halle Maria Berry was raised by her mother Judith, a psychiatric ward nurse, with her older sister Heidi. Judith's husband, Halle's father, walked out on her family when she was only 4 years old.

Although living in a single parent household was somewhat tough, Halle's mom managed to move the family out of the inner city neighborhood and into the suburbs of Cleveland. Because the neighborhood was predominantly white, Halle and her sister were treated cruelly because of their dark skin.

Determined not to let the color of her skin get the better of her, Halle made it a point to make friends, while her dream of becoming an actress had already begun to surface.

By the time Halle reached high school, she was a cheerleader, an honor society member, editor of the school paper, and class president. Not surprisingly, she was crowned her high school's prom queen.

In 1983, when she was only 17 years old, Halle's boyfriend at the time entered her name in the Miss Teen Ohio beauty pageant. Once again, it's no surprise that Halle got to wear the crown in that competition.

But it didn't stop there, Halle won many other high-profile competitions, including Miss Teen All American, Miss USA and Miss World. Once she was done raking in points by winning pageant after pageant, Halle continued her education at Cleveland's Cuyahoga Community College in 1986, studying broadcast journalism.

Unfortunately, Halle didn't complete her degree -- she left the program to pursue a more glamorous career in modeling, and started studying acting in Chicago. Although Halle auditioned for soap opera and drama guru Aaron Spelling for a part in Charlie's Angels and didn't get the part, Spelling encouraged Halle to pursue her dreams of being an actress.

Halle moved to Manhattan, where she immediately landed her first TV gig in Living Dolls. Although the show was short-lived, Halle was more determined than ever to become a great actress.

Halle got her first big break in 1991, when Spike Lee cast her as a crack-addicted woman in Jungle Fever, starring opposite Samuel L. Jackson. She was so determined to execute the role perfectly that Halle actually interviewed real addicts and stopped bathing 10 days before filming the racially-charged film.

Soon after that, Halle reverted back to television and had a recurring role on the popular nighttime soap opera, Knots Landing, in 1991.

But the big screen was where Halle wanted to be and she soon landed another part, this time playing Damon Wayans' exotic girlfriend in the film The Last Boy Scout (1991), which also starred Bruce Willis

As with her Jungle Fever role, Halle delved into this role wholeheartedly, so much so that she convinced a Hollywood strip-club owner to let her dance on stage.

In 1992, Halle landed a starring role opposite none other than the comedy man himself, Eddy Murphy in Boomerang. In 1993, she and married Atlanta Braves right fielder David Justice. Unfortunately, the marriage was short-lived and they divorced in 1996.

Halle made an equally unwise decision in 2001, after she married soul singer Eric Benet only to file for divorce in 2003.

Halle decided to take a lighter acting job and starred in the 1994 movie The Flintstones, but Halle's riveting big-screen role as an illiterate addict who abandons her child in a garbage can in 1995's Losing Isaiah shot her star up high.

Unfortunately for Halle, she missed the role of a lifetime when she passed up the lead role in the film Speed, which ultimately worked wonders for Sandra Bullock's career.

Other movies that Halle starred in include Executive Decision (1996); Race the Sun (1996); B*A*P*S (1997); Bulworth (1998); and Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, for which she won a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy for Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV movie.

In 2000, Halle starred in the live film adaptation of the cartoon strip X-Men, as Storm/Ororo Munroe -- along with fellow mutants Rebecca Romijn-Stamos and Famke Janssen

Halle has also returned to modeling, as a spokeperson for Revlon. And because Halle was diagnosed with diabetes not too long ago, she is an avid volunteer of the Juvenile Diabetes Association.

Unfortunately, Halle made headlines when she was charged with a hit and run in 2000, and pleaded no contest -- the judge ordered her to perform 200 hours of community service. She also made news when she was allegedly paid a $500,000 bonus to reveal her breasts in a scene in 2001's hacker film, Swordfish.

Audiences can see more of Halle in the film Monster's Ball, in her critically-acclaimed portrayal of a death row convict's wife. Halle received the 2002 SAG award for Best Actress in Monster's Ball and made history at the Oscars as the first black actress to receive a Best Actress Academy Award. Her Oscar triumph has cemented her as an A-list actress.

But this doesn't mean there's no room for action blockbusters; Halle appeared as Jinx in the James Bond film, Die Another Day (2002), and the second installment of what looks like an X-Men franchise (2003).

Between roles in Gothika (2003), The Set-Up (2004), The Guide (2004), Nappily Ever After (2004) and the title role in Catwoman (2004), Berry is proving to be one of the busiest women in Hollywood.

Although Halle's talent and beauty usually make headlines, she made the news again when her alleged abusive ex-lover was finally revealed as Wesley Snipes.

Halle has accomplished much fame and fortune in her professional career, but it's evident that she's going to be around for quite a long time.

Madonna Biography
Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone was the third of eight children born into a large Italian family in Michigan. Her father, Sylvio Ciccone, was a design engineer for General Motors, and her mother was Madonna Ciccone. She died when Madonna was six years old.

Madonna attended the University of Michigan on a dance scholarship for two years before heading to New York City to become a ballet dancer. She danced for the Patrick Hernandez Revue before teaming with Dan Gilroy to form the band, Breakfast Club. She later formed the band, Emmy, with Stephen Bray. Their first two singles, "Everybody" and "Physical Attraction" became club hits in New York. The next single, "Holiday," became her first Top Ten hit. Since then Madonna has had a spectacular career in show business as a singer, actress, and producer. Through her ability to evolve with the audiences, she has had more number one singles than any other female artist, eleven in all. Her song, "Rescue Me" off of THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION, became the highest-debuting single by a female artist in U.S. chart history, entering at number 15. She has won numerous MTV Music Awards, five Grammys, and a Golden Globe for her performance in EVITA. In 1992 she signed with Time Warner to create her own record label, Maverick.

Madonna continues to record music and act in films, splitting her time between Los Angeles, New York, Miami, and London. She has a daughter, Lourdes Maria, whom she calls "Lola" and is expecting another baby in late 2000.

Personal life

Relationships and family

Early relationships and first marriage
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Madonna dated Dan Gilroy, with whom she formed the band Breakfast Club. In the early 1980s, she also dated musician Stephen Bray, who later co-produced songs such as "Into the Groove" and "Express Yourself", artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, DJ and record producer Mark Kamins, and musician Jellybean Benitez, who produced tracks and remixed her debut album Madonna.

While filming the music video for "Material Girl" in 1985, Madonna began dating actor Sean Penn. The two were married later that year on Madonna's twenty-seventh birthday. Their relationship was marred by Penn's frequent outbursts against the press, leading the couple to be dubbed the “Poison Penns.” After filing and withdrawing divorce papers in December 1987, Madonna and Penn separated on New Year's Eve of 1988 after allegations of abuse on Penn's part, and were officially divorced in September 1989. Of her marriage to Penn, Madonna later told Tatler, "I was completely obsessed with my career and not ready to be generous in any shape or form."

Post-divorce relationships, motherhood, and remarriage
After the divorce from Penn was made official in 1989, Madonna began a highly-publicized relationship with Warren Beatty while working on the film Dick Tracy early in 1989. Despite rumors that the two had become engaged in May 1990, the couple's relationship seemed to have ended by the summer. In a 1991 interview with Vanity Fair, Madonna said, "I'd go, 'Warren, did you really chase that girl for a year?!?' And he’d say, 'Nah, it's all lies.' I should have known better. I was unrealistic, but then, you always think you're going to be the one."

In late 1990, Madonna dated Tony Ward, a young bisexual model and porn star who starred in her music videos for "Cherish" (1989) and "Justify My Love" (1990). Their relationship ended by early 1991,and Madonna later began an eight-month relationship with rapper Vanilla Ice, who appeared later in her Sex book.

In 1992; Madonna dated actor John Enos, her bodyguard James Albright, and in 1994 went out with basketball player Dennis Rodman for four months.

In September 1994, while walking in Central Park, Madonna met fitness trainer Carlos Leon who became her personal trainer and lover. On October 14, 1996, Madonna gave birth to the couple's child, Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon. The couple ended their relationship in 1997 Madonna then began dating Andy Bird, who sold his story to the newspapers in a tell-all about their eighteen-month relationship in late 2000/early 2001.

On August 11, 2000, Madonna gave birth to a son, Rocco John Ritchie, with Guy Ritchie, whom she had met in 1999 through mutual friends Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler. On December 22, 2000, Madonna and Ritchie were married in Scotland. As of 2007, Madonna resides in Marylebone, London and her country estate in Wiltshire, with Ritchie and their children.

In March, 2007 Crown Publishing canceled a tell-all book deal, thought to be worth 5 million dollars, with Madonna and Ritchie's former nanny Melissa Dumas. The book claims that Madonna and Ritchie have a cold and distant relationship and that they are both fixated on money and restrictive dietary habits.

Post Adoption Pregnancy
- German Magazine 'In Touch' broke a story that Madonna is possibly pregnant with her third biological child.

Over the span of her lengthy career, Madonna also has been rumored to be romantically linked to numerous men and women including John F. Kennedy, Jr., Sandra Bernhard, Prince and Esai Morales in 1988; Lenny Kravitz in 1990; Michael Jackson in 1991; José Canseco, Ingrid Casares and Big Daddy Kane in 1992; Mark Wahlberg and Anthony Kiedis in 1993; Charles Barkley and Tupac Shakur in 1994; Chris Paciello in 1997; Billy Zane in 1998; David Blaine and Jenny Shimizu in 1999 before her marriage with Ritchie. But most of these affairs are unconfirmed so far.

David Banda adoption
On October 10, 2006, Madonna filed adoption papers for a Malawian baby boy named David Banda, whom her family renamed David Banda Mwale Ciccone Ritchie, born September 24, 2005, during her trip to an orphanage in Malawi.

After a passport and visa were issued for the child, Banda was flown out of Malawi on October 16.The adoption raised public controversy about whether special treatment was given to Madonna considering the fact that Malawian law normally requires one year of residence for potential adoptive parents.

Madonna appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show on October 25, 2006, to refute the allegations. During the half-hour interview, the singer claimed that there are no written adoption laws in Malawi that regulate foreign adoption and that she had been planning to adopt for two years. She also claimed that Banda had been in critical condition and was suffering from pneumonia after surviving malaria and tuberculosis when she had found him in the orphanage. In addition, Madonna blamed the media for "doing a great disservice to all the orphans of Africa, period, not just the orphans of Malawi", by discouraging people from adopting children from African nations. She stated, "I wanted to go into a Third World country—I wasn't sure where—and give a life to a child who might not otherwise have had one."

On October 22, 2006, it was reported that Yohane Banda, David Banda's birth father, did not understand what "adoption" meant and that he had not realized that he was giving up his son "for good." He had assumed that this arrangement was more like a fostering agreement. A few days later, after the Winfrey interview, he said, "These so-called human rights activists are harassing me every day, threatening me that I am not aware of what I am doing." He was also reported to say, "They want me to support their court case, a thing I cannot do for I know what I agreed with Madonna and her husband." On November 1, 2006, Madonna responded to Banda's comments on an Dateline NBC interview with Meredith Vieira by saying that Yohane Banda had known what he was doing, having refused to accept her offer to financially support him and the child without adopting the child.

Because of Malawi laws, Madonna and Guy Ritchie remain David Banda's foster parents for the required eighteen-month period.

Kabbalah Center
Since the late-1990s, Madonna has become a devotee of the Kabbalah Centre and a disciple of its controversial head Rabbi Philip Berg and his wife Karen. Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie attend Kabbalah classes and have been reported to have adopted a number of aspects of the movement associated with Judaism. The media has reported that Madonna has taken on the Biblical name of Esther and has donated millions of dollars to Kabbalah Centres in London, New York, and Los Angeles. She no longer performs on Friday nights because this is the time when the Jewish Sabbath begins. Madonna wears a red string and has visited Israel with members of the Kabbalah Centre to celebrate some of the Jewish holidays. She also studies personally with her own private-tutor, Rabbi Eitan Yardeni, whose wife Sarah Yardeni runs Madonna's favorite charitable project, "Spirituality for Kids", a subsidiary of the Kabbalah Centre.Madonna reportedly donated $21 million towards a new Kabbalah school for children.

Controversy erupted again well before the release of her most recent album Confessions on a Dance Floor. Many Israeli rabbis condemned Madonna and the forthcoming song "Isaac" (tenth on its track listing) because they believed the song to be a tribute to Rabbi Isaac Luria, also known as Yitzhak Luria (1534–1572), one of the greatest Kabbalists of all time, and claimed that Jewish law forbids using a holy rabbi's name for profit. In interviews, Madonna had called this song: "The Binding of Isaac" and rumors spread that it was based on the major episode in the life of the Hebrew patriarch Isaac. Despite continued accusations that the song is about Isaac Luria, Madonna has repeatedly denied such accusations, claiming she could not think of a title for the song and, therefore, named it after Yitzhak (Isaac) Sinwani. In the song, Madonna sings with Sinwani, an Israeli singer, who is chanting a Yemenite Jewish song. Said Madonna: "The album isn't even out, so how could Jewish scholars in Israel know what my song is about? I don't know enough about Isaac Luria to write a song, though I've learned a bit in my studies."

Madonna has openly defended her Kabbalah studies by stating, for example:

“ I wouldn't say studying Kabbalah for eight years goes under the category or falls under the category of being a fad or a trend. Now there might be people who are interested in it because they think it's trendy, but I can assure you that studying Kabbalah is actually a very challenging thing to do. It requires a lot of work, a lot of reading, a lot of time, a lot of commitment and a lot of discipline. ”

Furthermore, Madonna said in a BBC interview that she believes Christianity is intolerant of questioning, whereas Kabbalah is not. Madonna has also defended Kabbalah against detractors who claim it is a cult designed to extort money from followers.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Girls Aloud are a Smash Hits Poll Winners, TMF award-winning and BRIT Award-nominated British girl group created on ITV1 talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002. The group, consisting of Cheryl Cole (née Tweedy), Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh, has gone on to become one of the most successful pop groups of the decade with a record breaking fifteen consecutive Top 10 singles (including three number ones), four platinum albums (including a number one) and record sales in excess of 4.2 million in the UK alone. They have also scored successes around Europe with Number One singles in Greece and Ireland, as well as making an impact in countries further afield, such as Mexico and Australia.

Their British production team Xenomania are well-known for embracing various influences, from Electronica, House, Power Pop and Rock among others. Indeed, the music of Girls Aloud ranges from the distinctly 1980's sound of "The Show" to "Love Machine" and much of the Chemistry album, which looks back to the 1960's. Girls Aloud's songs frequently eschew traditional verse-chorus strong structure - a technique which can be heard most clearly in "Biology" or "Sexy! No No No..." - and often exploit polyphonic (or even contrapuntal) textures, giving their music a complex, multi-layered sound.

Girls Aloud hold the record for the shortest time between forming and reaching number one in the UK Charts (with their platinum-selling debut single "Sound of the Underground", and have since become one of the few reality television groups to have had continued success with Guinness World Records listing them as the Most Successful Reality TV Group in the 2007 edition. Their record of fifteen consecutive top ten singles is also unmatched by any other girl group beating the Spice Girls' previous record of ten, but not their string of number one's.

For a contemporary pop group manufactured on reality television they have received unprecedented praise from broadsheet newspapers and the rock music press, with publications including the Observer Music Monthly, and the NME giving their music rave reviews, with The Observer calling "Biology" the "single of the decade".

Formation

Girls Aloud were formed on November 30, 2002 in front of millions of viewers on the ITV1 programme Popstars: The Rivals. The concept of the programme was to produce a boyband and a girlband who would be 'rivals' and compete for the Christmas number one single in 2002. Following the initial success of Hear'Say (winners of the original Popstars show), several thousand applicants attended auditions across the UK in hope of being selected for the show. Ten men and ten women were chosen as finalists by judges Pete Waterman, Louis Walsh and Geri Halliwell with Big Brother presenter Davina McCall taking the contestants through the auditions and the shows each week. However, two finalists were disqualified before the live shows began: Hazel Kaneswaren was found to be too old to participate whilst Nicola Ward refused to sign the contract, claiming the pay the band would go on to receive was too poor. Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts were chosen as their replacements, who had made it into the final fifteen, but were not originally chosen for the final ten.

During October and November, the finalists took to the stage participating in week-by-week live performances every Saturday night (alternating between the girls and boys each week). One contestant was eliminated each week (due to polling the least amount of phone votes) until the final line-ups of the boy band and girl band emerged. The five girls who polled enough votes to make it into the band were (in order) Cheryl Tweedy, Nicola Roberts, Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh, and Sarah Harding, with Javine Hylton missing out on a place in the band, despite previous expectations that she would be placed in the line-up. They called themselves Girls Aloud and were managed by Louis Walsh until 2005 when Hilary Shaw replaced him. The runners up, a boy band called One True Voice were managed by Pete Waterman.

The two bands competed for the number one position in the Christmas Week UK singles chart. Girls Aloud won the battle with their single "Sound of the Underground" (produced by Brian Higgins and Xenomania) which stayed at number one for four weeks. Disney Channel viewers later voted this as best single of 2002–2003 at the Disney Channel Kids Awards. Originally tipped to be more successful than the girls, One True Voice released just two singles before disbanding in Summer 2003.

Subsequent career

2002–2004: Sound of the Underground

After the huge success of "Sound of the Underground" the newly formed group took several months to record their debut album.

They followed their début single with the number two hit "No Good Advice" in May 2003. The song received critical acclaim and the video, whilst known to have been the girls' least favourite video due to problems in production, was deemed one of the sexiest videos of the year.

The debut album, Sound of the Underground, was released on 26 May 2003. It went straight in at number two, behind Justin Timberlake's album Justified. One of the tracks, "Girls Allowed", was written for the girls by ex-Westlife star Bryan McFadden while "Some Kind of Miracle" was co-written by former B*Witched star Edele Lynch.

2004–2005: What Will the Neighbours Say?

After a brief break, the girls returned to promote brand new single "The Show", in June 2004, the first release from their second album. It had an unusual structure for a pop song, consisting of a number of interchanged sections rather than the more typical verse-chorus form. This single showed off a new look for the girls and was backed with a promotional campaign prior to its première featuring five empty chairs with each of the girls' names on. This built up excitement over the new look and later featured on the single cover with the girls in their seats. When released, it entered the singles chart at number two.

2005–2006: Chemistry

After a short break following their first tour, the girls began work on their third album. The first single to be released from "Chemistry" was "Long Hot Summer" in August 2005 and charted at number seven, ending their consecutive top five run but continuing their unbroken run of top ten singles. The single that launched their third album was "Biology". It entered the UK charts at number four in November 2005 and equalled the Spice Girls record of ten consecutive top ten singles in the UK.

Their third studio album Chemistry was released on December 5, 2005. It features "Models", a song first heard being recorded on their ITV2 documentary Girls Aloud: Home Truths and also used as the theme music to their E4 documentary Girls Aloud: Off the Record. It also boasts writing credits from JC Chasez of 'N Sync fame, who penned the track Watch Me Go. The album peaked on the charts at number eleven, their lowest ever, despite overwhelming critical acclaim; it eventually went platinum and has currently sold over 350,000 copies in total.

2006–2007: The Sound of Girls Aloud

n September 2006, the official Girls Aloud web site confirmed the release of The Sound of Girls Aloud — a compilation that contains Girls Aloud's singles and some new and unreleased material. The album was released on October 30, 2006 and on November 5, 2006 débuted at number one on the UK album chart. After a mere eight weeks it became the group's biggest selling album to date. The album was also released on a limited edition double CD format containing live tracks and previously unavailable tracks such as "Singapore" and "Hanging On The Telephone, a cover of the Blondie single; this has now become a highly priced collectors item. As of August 2007 the album has gone 2x Platinum and has sold almost three quarters of a million copies.

2007–Present: Fourth studio album

On July 13, 2007 Girls Aloud's official website announced that the new single is to be called "Sexy! No, No, No..." and is to be released on September 3. The track was played exclusively on The Chris Moyles Show on the 19th of July at 8:10am. It has been described by Popjustice as Girls Aloud's "noisiest single yet". It was performed for the first time at T4 On The Beach in Weston-Super-Mare on Sunday 22nd July.

According to play.com, Girls Aloud's fourth studio album is to be released on November 19. Sarah has said "Its been such a busy summer recording new material, we can't wait to play it to everyone. We can't reveal anything just yet except that it's a really great new edgy sound and we hope you love it as much as we do". Sarah also said "We're still in the process of making the first few singles, and now we're just writing and recording," with Nadine adding that they had not decided on a title yet.

When Kimberley was asked what the name of the latest album would be, she replied: "We haven't actually decided. We will choose a name after we have released the second single and can clearly see which direction the album is going in."

Popjustice

The Popjustice £20 Music Prize is awarded every year by a panel of judges (or sometimes a public vote) to the best British pop single of the previous twelve months. The competition has been running since 2003. Girls Aloud have been nominated every year, and have won it three times. The girls are currently nominated for the 2007 Popjustice Music Prize for their hit single "Something Kinda Ooooh".

Jessica Biel Biography
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jessica Claire Biel (born March 3, 1982) is an American actress and former fashion model best known for appearing in several Hollywood films such as Summer Catch, the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Illusionist, as well as for her early television role of Mary Camden in the long-running family-drama series 7th Heaven.Biography

Early life

Biel was born in Ely, Minnesota to Jonathan Edward Biel, an entrepreneur, and Kimberly Conroe. Biel, who has a younger brother, Justin, grew up in Boulder, Colorado, where her family had moved when she was very young. She initially trained to become a vocalist with the hope of performing in musical theater and appeared in several musicals at an early age including The Sound of Music, Annie, Beauty and the Beast and Anything Goes

Early career

t wasn't until Biel attended the International Modeling and Talent Association Convention in Los Angeles in 1994 when her career started to take off as a fashion model.

Rise to fame (1996 - 2002)

Biel's first big break came when at 14 years old she landed the role of Mary Camden on the WB TV Series 7th Heaven. The family drama from Aaron Spelling and Brenda Hampton became the most popular (and remains the longest running) series on the fledgling network. Jessica's film career also began at age 15 when she played alongside Peter Fonda in his Golden Globe winning performance in Ulee's Gold (1997). Aside from acting, Jessica became a spokesmodel for L'Oreal cosmetics in 2002.

In 2000, Biel posed topless in a layout of Gear magazine. It was controversial because she was only 17 at the time of the shoot. Her frustration and fear about being typecast was one of the reasons that led to her decision. She blamed her saintly image on 7th Heaven for limiting her film career, including losing a lead role in American Beauty, which eventually went to Thora Birch. Jessica also hoped that by posing she would get out of her 7th Heaven contract, which she accomplished. She later said she regretted posing for the magazine and regards it as a learning experience. Jessica returned to 7th Heaven full time for the 2001—2002 season and then focused her attention on her movie career and has made minimal TV appearances since then. In 2002, she also had a role in the film The Rules of Attraction based on a novel by Bret Easton Ellis.

Film stardom (2003-2005)

After her departure from 7th Heaven, she accepted the role of Erin Hardesty in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003). The movie was met with moderate critical attention, but was successful commercially making over 80 million dollars stateside with its 9 million dollar budget. She has also had starring roles in Blade: Trinity (2004) and Stealth (2005), the latter of which was a box-office flop, losing a significant amount of money. Biel was also rumored to be up for the part of Elizabeth in The Fog (a part originated by scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis). Later reports stated Biel did not want to do any more horror films. The part eventually went to Maggie Grace of Lost. Turning down the role proved to be a wise move: the remake was a box office flop, which had been predicted by various critics, as the film was not screened for the press prior to its release. After a nearly three year absence, Jessica surprised her fans by making one final appearance in the series finale of 7th Heaven in May 2006. The series was later renewed, at last minute, for an 11th season. Biel has not made any future appearances as of mid 2007.

Breakthrough (2006 - present)

After several indifferent feature films, her film career finally blossomed when she played a turn-of-the-century duchess in The Illusionist (2006), which received good reviews and generated a profit at the box office. In 2006, she also starred Home of the Brave, about soldiers returning from Iraq, premiered in Los Angeles on December 5, 2006. She next starred opposite Adam Sandler in the comedy I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, which went to number one at the box office, making over 34 million dollars in its opening weekend, and is slated to appear in two more films in 2008. A Woman of No Importance, about a woman's past comes back to haunt her when the man who left her with a child becomes the potential employer of their illegitimate son. Based on the play by Oscar Wilde. Taking over Lindsay Lohan's part, which is set to begin filming in the fall of 2007. She'll also appear in Powder Blue opposite Forest Whitaker, about four desperate individuals who intersect in Los Angeles on Christmas Eve.

Personal life

Biel attended the exclusive private Lycée Français de Los Angeles for high school. In fall 2000, she enrolled in an undergraduate study at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. Having attended there during fall 2000, spring 2001 and fall 2002 semesters, she left before completing a degree program to concentrate on her acting career.

Biel's hobbies include ballet, soccer, running, yoga and hiking. Biel currently resides in Los Angeles. She dated actor Chris Evans from 2001 to 2006, with at least one time "off" during that period. Together, they appeared in the films London and Cellular. She also dated another fellow actor, Adam LaVorgna, who portrayed the character of Robbie in 7th Heaven, for about two years. Jessica had been linked to New York Yankees star shortstop Derek Jeter.

In January 2007, Biel was linked to singer Justin Timberlake when pictures surfaced of the two snowboarding in Park City, Utah during the Sundance Film Festival. On May 12, 2007, the gossip was refueled with the release of romantic pictures of Timberlake and Biel on multiple dates, specifically caught kissing while dining in the UK accompanied by producer/mogul Timbaland and the Manchester United (at the time) footballer Alan Smith. Timberlake has said he is drawn to independent women.

Charity work

On July 18, 2006, Biel auctioned herself for a charity event to help raise money for medical expenses for Colorado teen Molly Bloom, who lost her leg and part of her pelvis in an auto accident. The winning bid for the lunch date with Biel was $30,000. Biel quipped, "I promise, I'm a cheap date." The charity event raised $38,000 total. The lunch date was set for August 18, 2006.
